F+tM – Wow, Didn’t expect to see this one, thought it was a little too main stream. Ha! Haven’t hear too much from them, but I have heard of them. I believe my wife has this album. Overall a decent song.
ML – Just a classic song about a now classic car. Love the song, never really listened to the lyrics other than the Chorus and “Radio On”
Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
Haven’t heard a lot of their stuff, but I do know, and like, this one. Beautiful vocals. Strong, almost anthemic, pulsing.
The Modern Lovers – Roadrunner
Second appearance of this track in the MyFive song edition – certainly okay by me. Velvet Underground influence is strong here.
“Dog Days Are Over”/Florence and the Machine. Rewarding. Good job sustaining interest with both the introspective/acoustic opening and the part after the drums come in. Their handling of the loud/quiet transition reminds me of Arcade Fire. Singer has a strong voice.
“Roadrunner”/Modern Lovers. “I’m in love with modern moonlight!” The proto-punk classic from that beamish boy J. Richman. Ed, I think the VU song you’re recalling is “Sister Ray,” the much longer and darker tune this one directly cops. Love ’em both.
“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine: This band was very popular with at least two of my kids in the naughts, I think. This song was everywhere. The singer has a powerful voice with a unique vocal character. Thumbs up.
“Roadrunner” by The Modern Lovers: This song was just what my ears needed tonight. Love how all the instruments find each other and dance. The energy keeps rising until it finds the pocket.
