  1. MSJT – Nice acoustic raw jam. I can get behind this.

SW – Reading the title of the song, I had no idea what is was (Not that I am that familair with anything other than the hits.) As soon as it started playing I recognized the tune. Had no idea that is what it is called.

  2. Mavis Staples & Jeff Tweedy – Wrote a Song for Everyone
Great to hear a legend sing a Creedence classic. The other JT supports her admirably. Wonderful.
“If you see the answer, now’s the time to say.”

    Stevie Wonder – Sir Duke
I too know this song. One of those tracks that is pure audio sunshine. Perfect.

  3. “Wrote a Song”/ Mavis & Jeff. Very nice campfire-strum version of the CCR deep cut, with Mavis’ marvelously lived-in voice providing, expectedly enough, a strong gospel flavor. She’s great — highly recommend seeing her live if you ever get a chance.

  4. Stevie- I got this album as one of my Columbia House selections in middle school- a great score for a double album. It was also one of songs that I tried to play on the drums when I first started playing. Love the horns on this one. And that it is tribute to musical legends and well as thr spirit and beauty of music. Shout out to the great(?) Michael Sembello on guitar!

  5. “Wrote a Song for Everyone” by Mavis Staples & Jeff Tweedy: Love this. Although I know we try not to let the video impact the song itself..in this case that did play in to my initial reaction. I am not sure if this is a cover or a Jeff Tweedy original but his reaction to hearing Mavis interpret the song in the moment was priceless to me (it seemed genuine astonishment at someone doing things to his words that he could never of dreamed of taking it…. resulting in pure joy in the moment). Yes, Perhaps I am projecting but I could see him reacting to her movement, intonation, soul and textures …all arising seemingly effortlessly from that particular vocal chord. Excellent Performance.

“Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder: A classic. Perhaps overplayed to the point of passing over it when played on the radio but it really is just so good. Those horns baby.

follow up post read note on the Staples/Tweedy song: see it was indeed a cover.
