“Wrote a Song for Everyone” by Mavis Staples & Jeff Tweedy
Submitted by Alan

All I can say is that I came across this song while I was considering songs for this M5 and thought it was awesome.

“Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder
Submitted by Bill

Gotta be one of the most rousing tributes out there to music itself (as well as to Mr. Ellington in particular, who surely woulda got his own OBE if we handed them out ’round here). If that breakdown that first kicks in at 1:05 don’t get ya, make your way to your family physician. Love the percolating guitar in the right channel, and of course the irrepressible brass.

“Part of the Band” by The 1975
Submitted by Dave

Love the expressive way the stringed instruments are mixed into this song. This one just grabbed me as a creative song and was inspiring to me from a music development point of view.

“Where It’s At” by Beck
Submitted by Ian

Second song to come to mind. Beck is awesome and this song kicks.

“Top of the Bill” by Scorpions
Submitted by Ed

Many of you know that Scorpions and I go way back. This is from before I knew of them, but became a favorite off their strong 3rd album, In Trance (1974) and was one of the first tracks I thought to submit for this round. I was a fledgling bass player myself when I tried to ask non English speaking Francis Bucholz for a few tips when my cousin and I met them backstage on their first U.S. tour (for Lovedrive at the Spectrum, 1979 – [they certainly weren’t yet Top of the Bill, https://www.concertarchives.org/concerts/ted-nugent-ac-dc-scorpions-5c0ce64f-8f78-48dc-8315-0cf6cf936ef7]). They wouldn’t have a Billboard hit until 1982’s No One Like You – (four albums, and one guitarist later) which was when they started to get some notice on this side of the pond.

Into each life a little Nash should fall. You are welcome.
