  1. OB – What is this? some kind of 80’s punk-pop! I like it.

DB – Probably my favorite David Bowie song. A pioneer of his time.

  2. Off Broadway – Full Moon Turn My Head Around
Power Pop – Rubinoos, 20/20, The Romantics (1st Record) – this would fit in quite nicely. Ringing guitar with enough change-ups to keep it interesting. Makes me smile.

David Bowie – Life on Mars?
What a richly produced track. Takes it down appropriately for the verse and then rebuilds.
Read that this was meant to parody “My Way.” I’d have to listen to that more closely to evaluate. Maybe musically as it is almost crazily over-the-top – there is even timpani at the end. Also did not know ’til recently that it was Rick Wakeman on piano – makes sense as it is quite grandiose. Wonder if he wore the cape.
(I believe David Husted & Ed Bejzak’s original recording of Trusting Soul pays homage to this with the phone ringing at the end.)

  3. “Full Moon ….”/Off Broadway. A song of many parts. Must pull nearly every arranging trick out of the power-pop playbook. Sharp dynamics. The vocals are more soulful than is common in this genre. Tuneful and rocking, carried off expertly.

“Life on Mars?”/Bowie. Of course Bowie shows up in this round. I’d be surprised if he didn’t again. A classic track that remains very entertaining a half-century on. Musically lush and lyrically, in the fashion of Bowie of this period (was it an ERA?), highly evocative if cryptic. With Earth culture a let-down, we seek otherworldly succor.

  4. “Full Moon Turn My Head Around” by Off Broadway: They got a beat, they got a good, good beat. Nice, driving power. A song that just gets you moving and feels like it’d be fun to play in the band. Nothing here that captures me as overly memorable but a style and genre of music that sits perfectly in my gets me smiling and energized wheel house

“Life on Mars?” by David Bowie; Excellent track…a solid David Bowie number with all the David Bowie accoutrements, bells, whistles and assorted stylings that make it sound oh so David Bowie.
