  1. House of Freaks – Sun Gone Down
Just right and just enough. A clean, precise strike.

Fingerprints – Now I Wanna Be a Space Girl
Wow. Haven’t heard this one in decades. I actually bought the single by accident – thinking it was from the band Fingerprintz. This one is also very clean and a straight -ahead rocker. Great energy.

  2. “Sun Gone Down”/House of Freaks. Old-school garage-soul feel with a gothic storyline. Nice. the not-of-this-world theme is either lost in the lyrics or lost on me though.

“Now I Wanna Be a Spacegirl”/Fingerprints. This one is even further into the B-movie/pulp-paperback side of rock n roll, with a post-punk feel. Lots of fun! It appears one band member was Steve Fjelstad, who later went on to (sort of) fame as an engineer and producer with bands including the Replacements.

  3. House of Freaks- I love this tune! You have to respect any band that brings the cowbell. The vibe, the rhythm and the drive of this song are wonderful. I also enjoyed the way the singer phrased/parsed the lyrics. I can’t recall hearing them or this song before but I’m on board.

Fingerprints- Straightforward with lots of fuzz. I was impressed with the commitment to the guitar solo which was weird and quirky but then annoyed that it went on way too long.

  4. “Sun Gone Down” by House of Freaks: I hear hints of Crowded House, Split Enz and Tim Finn …perhaps the voice? and that is a very good thing. The intro percussion reminds me of Will Farrell hitting the cowbell in that famous SNL skit “I need more cowbell”. I chuckle. I amuse myself. Oh back to the song. This one pulled me in and spit me out. It delivered the goods. I enjoyed the whole package. I added the spit me out for no particular reason specific to the song. I liked the way it bookended that particular sentence.
