  1. Conor Oberst – I Don’t Want to Die (In the Hospital
Shuffle right on out of the hospital. I like to think of a band kicking it up in a bar. Reminds me a little of Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper.

    U2 – Miracle Drug
Didn’t remember this one. It’s very U2. Solidly anthemic.

  2. “I Don’t Want to Die (in the Hospital)”/Oberst. The title did not lead me to expect the honky-tonkin’ piano and twangy guitar. Fun stuff. Ed’s Mojo Nixon comparison is apt. I thought the vocals were also somewhat Westerbergian (and the Mats have a song “Take Me Down to the Hospital”).

“Miracle Drug”/U2. “The songs are in your eyes, I see them when you smile.” Bono’s preamble puts a more literal spin on the song, which could otherwise be about anyone with trouble communicating. A nice rendition with the expected effective dynamics.

  3. “I Don’t Want to Die (In the Hospital)” by Conor Oberst: I like when he went full out frantic around 2:30 in…then the brief respite and then back at it ” I don’t want to die in this hospital!!!:
    Very Nice

“Miracle Drug” by U2: Have not heard this one in quite a while. The live version was interesting to watch.. He gives a excellent performance here.
