my – what……the……..hell! Excellent selection. pretty funny, I would pay to see this show. love the props
X – Its no “Hungry like the Wolf” which was the first song to come to mind. Now that I think of it, Danzig Killer Wolf would have been a great selection. This is a little too much for first day back from vacation when all I want to do is sleep right now. Never heard of this group. ” X” does sound familiar though, hmmm…..

The horn (French? Or trombone?) sets this apart a bit from others in this genre. Like the plinking of the xylophone – in fact there’s a good deal of plinking and amiable cacophony. An enjoyable toe-tapper that reminds me of something I can’t quite call to mind. Thumbs up.
X – Hungry Wolf
X marks the spot. I don’t think I’ve ever made the effort to listen to one of their albums, but I’ve heard enough to appreciate their fiery brand. This ones kinda garage-y punk. Almost 4 minutes, but over before you know it. “Ready to tear up the world”
“The Fox, the Crow …”/Mewithoutyou. Very Americana but in particular very Decemberists, right down to the timbre of the singer’s voice. I had to check but the song does retell an Aesop’s fable, with a toe-tapping beat, sturdy tune and literate wordsmithing (“using most unfriendly words the village children had not yet heard”). The somewhat caw-cophonous breakdown — fiddle? tuba? — in the middle is fun. A delightful track, and a thematically superior pick.
mewithoutyou- These guys had me with their creatively punctuated band name. As stated in my previous comment, I immediately associated this sound with quirky and quaint Neutral Milk Hotel, quickly followed by Violent Femmes. The tale from Aesop’s fables is beautifully rendered and the lyrics are a hoot : Using most unfriendly words
That the village children had not yet heard
The baker shouted threats by canzonette
To curse the crafty bird
“You rotten wooden mixing spoon
Why, you midnight-winged raccoon
You better bring those pastries back
You no-good burned-black macaroon”
The musical vibe captures something folky and artisanal that I can’t quite articulate. so fun!
X- My wife was a big X fan when I met her though I never really explored their music. I think of them as a band that extended punk when new wave rushed in though that may be way off. This song rocks. I like the raw quality of the guitar, the beat supported by the toms and John/Exene’s messy harmonies.
“Hungry Wolf” by X: A big rock sound. The guitar riffing and drums sync up dead-on. I was waiting for the howl and was not disappointed. Not sure I would have attached myself to this if I heard it without a MyFive prompt, but I did enjoy the listen once I gave it a proper chance.

I was thinking Decemberists, as Bill mentioned, but I think this better reflects what I was thinking.
