The Ramones – Never really gave them the time of day, I know the hits. I did get a “Best of” Ramones CD. There were a bunch of good tunes in there, but it starts to remind me of Robert Wood Johnson, they all start to blend together, but like RWJ with the blues, The Ramones were the epitome of punk.
TBS – I feel i have heard the name but not the music. Not bad. A little too “country” for me, from the video I am getting the impression this is a parody. I don’t really know where to place this.
Ramones – Teenage Lobotomy
“Guess I’ll have to break the news, that I got no mind to lose”
Get in, get out. Classic Ramones.
The Beautiful South – This Old Skin
A little country flavor with an Irish twinge. I really need to seek out more of their stuff. Very comfortable sound. I’ll need more time to assess the lyrics, but like the comparison of someone clinging to a town like the last orange from a crop to a branch – like skins.
“Teenage Lobotomy”/Les Ramones. “slugs and snails are after me … all the girls are in love with me.” I still love these boys. The first four albums, of which this is No. 4, epitomize them, and likely launched pop-punk. As someone once said, the Ramones are as much performance art as they are music. A complete satiric pose — or are Dee Dee’s lyrics (he was the chief lyricist in the early days, not Joey) just simply so candid they read somehow as satire? DDT WAS a big deal in the 70s … did anyone contract a lobotomy from it?
“This Old Skin”/Beautiful South. Good songcraft. Is old skin a malady? I am doomed. Love the chord changes in this one, the accordion, and the chorus or post-chorus or whatever part it is with the girl singer.
“This Old Skin” by The Beautiful South
Not a bad track….prob deserves closer lyrical deep diving which I did not do. Country-ish tune and has both a pleasant and road weary way of presenting itself to my ears.
