A Perfect Circle fits the bill nicely

It is a song about surviving and healing from depression and mental hea[l]th problems.

“Elephant” by Jason Isbell
Submitted by Bill O
Isbell is an excellent lyricist, as he demonstrates in this number in the voice of a man who’s close friends with a woman dying of cancer. “Sharecropper eyes and the hair almost all gone.” Deeply moving, and hard to believe it is not autobiographical in some way. I saw the Pittsburgh stop on his current tour and he played this one.

“Brain Damage” by Pink Floyd
Submitted by Dave
Always loved this song off a classic album. What else can be said. Super tune.

“Punk Rock Fever” by Melissa Lefton
Submitted by Ed
Yes, this only very loosely fits this round – probably could have saved it for the guilty pleasures round. I went through a brief Melissa Lefton phase – piecing together her unreleased album, Melicious. She appeared to be headed for fame, landing a track on the Princess Diaries soundtrack, but it was not to be.

“Shadows in the Rain” by Sting
Submitted by Alan
Purposefully chose the Sting version for this one, as it re-invents the plodding and dysphoric Police song from Zenyatta Mondatta ino a fevered, rocking jazz fusion. His band is fabulous– Omar Hakim on drums, Kenny Kirkland on keys and Branford Marsalis on sax. I saw them on that first tour in NY and it was quite an amazing show. “He claims I suffer from delusions” qualifies as the excuse for this round.
