“The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn” by The Pogues
Submitted by Bill O

Devils, an angel, booze, and death, all to the tune of a pennywhistle — aye, it must be Pogues. Ol’ Cuchulainn misbehaved, shall we say, but a guy who punches out anti-semitic fascists ain’t all bad. Shane McGowan’s way with a low-life narrative knows few equals.

“Anne” by John Frusciante
Submitted by Ian

Curtains was probably the best Album he produced while locked in his house on heroin. I think he mad[e] an album a month.

“Teenage Lobotomy” by Ramones
Submitted by Dave

This song has a raw, don’t give a shit, intensity that always makes it a fun listen

“This Old Skin” by The Beautiful South
Submitted by Alan

A comfy, almost country tune from these Brits. The skin to which they refer is likely more metapohrical though I think slides in for this round.

VOLUME 28.3.3

“I Don’t Want to Die (In the Hospital)” by Conor Oberst
Submitted by Ed

Am a fan of of his stuff as Bright Eyes. I think this was his first solo outing. A memorable track and an obvious choice for this round.

“Miracle Drug” by U2
Submitted by Bill B

A song about Christopher Nolan’s struggle with cerebral palsy and medical breakthroughs.
