Totally forgot about the Sugarcubes. Bjork was ahead of her time. I love how the animal aspect was buried in the lyrics and there is a cow in the video. Snakes!!!!!!
The Sugarcubes – Walkabout
The bass reminds of a quicker version of Grandmaster & Melle Mel’s “White Lines (Don’t Do It)”. Very 80s music-wise. A little 10,000 Maniacs or Missing Persons with Bjork’s unique vocals separating it from the pack. I get some notes of China Crisis & Aztec Camera as well. Quite a pleasing stew.
“Walkabout”/Sugar Cubes. I remember back in the late 80s being struck by their sound but I heard only a couple songs (“Birthday” and “Coldsweat”) and this wasn’t one of them. Much poppier than I recall, with those bright-toned rhythm guitars (acoustic and electric both) and that burbling bass. Always enjoy her powerful voice (and love her li’l growls). Appears this was an alt-hit of some sort; well deserved. I listened twice!
“Walkabout” by The Sugarcubes: Björk in all her beautiful weirdness. Love that bass just wailing through this. The guy’s ad libs aren’t quite my thing, but they’re part of the song’s wonky charm.
