PG – Started to listen to more of his work, but then fell off. I remember this song because of the video. His videos were ahead of their time in my opinion.
The Band – I love this song. What really got me into this group was the film “The Last Waltz” Couldn’t tell you how many times I watched it. The crazy keyboardist was the standout character, it might have been the intro to the song where he crazily looks into the camera.
Peter Gabriel – Digging in the Dirt
The album after the mega-hit of So. He continues to mine a successful formula. An undeniable groove with a rich/lush velvety thrum of sounds. Digging through the dirt of memories and pleading for support. I dug out my good headphones for this one.
The Band – Chest Fever
Beginning could lead to some ELP prog, but instead you get an excellent swampy jam. Man, it sounds like Winwood a bit there. Again the groove here is impressive – and then they kick it up a notch just before a Randy Newman like clip. And horn. There is so much packed in here. Damn. Time well spent.
Note: Might pair well with “Free Ride” and “All Right Now”
Chest Fever- I am not a The Band fanatic but I can certainly appreciate their appeal. This song really highlights the amazing keyboard virtuosity of maybe Garth Hudson or whoever the hell played all those parts. It’s unusual that a song would have so many varied keyboard sounds and parts. But I also appreciate the soulful vocals (Manuel or Helm?) and the groove that they sit it. And the cover art looks like a Dylan.
“Chest Fever” by The Band” oh my; what a big organ. Full bodied distorted presence. Sounds like my Kurzweil’s Hammond/tonewheel organ engine. I have a pre-set called Ezra that has a bit of that sound and it is a go-to for me. Love the way the instruments complimented the singer…they shared the stage on this one.
“Digging in the Dirt” by Peter Gabriel” I am sucker for the Gabriel sound/craft. This one does not disappoint. The mix, tones and rhythm/general vibe click. Excellent Track
“Digging in the Dirt”/P. Gabriel. His distinctive mid- to late-80s sound, very satisfying. Works well with the impassioned vox and introspective lyrics (and surreal video; man , he really went for the stop-action stuff in those days, and it’s perfect). Relationship woes as illness metaphor. Dig it.
