I said in a previous post that I was thinking about using bass and organ primarily for the Fool Play demo. I took to the keys this morning and was at least able to sketch out a bass part on organ for the current verse an chorus. Here it is with the vocals and keyboard drum track.
I tried a few other things on the keys, but nothing really worth saving. I’m really happy with the feel it will give the chorus. I’ve made a few tries at a soul/Motown feel in the past without success, but am thinking I might get out what I hear when all is said and done on this one.
I got my 2nd issue of Recording magazine (provided as a gift by a benefactor) and it turns out they’re starting a feature for beginners. How’s that for timing?

One Question (a two-parter with a long intro): You speak of it being hard to hear the bass/organ in the mix. Just want to clarify that it’s just the bass part (kinda simple, but effective?) played on the keys (organ voice) and there are not 2, separate parts. Never recorded/saved the other organ meanderings. Part one of the question is: on what device were your doing your listening? Part Two (It is really a separate one, a follow-up?): Were you using headphones or listening on speakers?
Carl Lisle replied to my comment via email as follows: “I was listening on my phone and then through earbuds. I did get that the bass was being played on the keys but had a hard time hearing anything other than vocals and percussion. I’ll go back and try again on another device but that is my recollection. “
On subsequent listening at a much louder volume, I hear the bass line.
