  1. G – This is a new one for me, but I really wasn’t familiar with their older stuff, prob pre 80’s? I like the intro. It sounds like Phil Collins, but feels more like Peter Gabriel.

LRB – I don’t know why but I love this song. Everything is just perfect. The intro, the bridge, the chorus, I love it. I dig that Yacht Rock! what more can I say.

  2. Genesis – Entangled
Know this one well. I might have even said it could be one of my selections, but, of all the songs in their catalogue, I’m not sure when I would have gotten to this one.
That said, it’s a beautiful track. A Trick of the Tail is one of those brilliant records that came out after the loss of the band’s lead singer, and major creative force, Peter Gabriel. It turned out that Phil Collins had a few things to sing.
Back to the track at hand: With its chiming guitars, bells and layered vocals, it’s got a dreamy quality to match the lyrics.
Note: I expect Squonk to start immediately after.

    Little River Band – Reminiscing
Swings just enough to lift it out of muzak territory. Of a time and a welcome listen. Chase it with some Boz Scaggs, Gerry Rafferty, etc. and you’ll be chilling just fine.

  3. “Entangled”/Genesis. One of the more delicate tracks one might imagine, with the intimate vocals, acoustic guitar and chimes all feeding the oneiric atmosphere. Lullaby-like melody. It all sounded very benignly supportive until the line “With your consent we can experiment further still” stopped me cold. On closer inspection, seems to be the experience of a heavily drugged psychiatric patient. Cunning gambit to couch it in such comforting terms (and tones).

“Reminiscing”/LRB. One of those very familiar songs I’ve never really listened to very closely. Appears to be about looking forward to reminiscing? Preemptive nostalgia? Like “Entangled,” it’s a dreamy song about dreaming with another nice melody. Soft rock, I suppose, but a nice groove. Pretty good vibrato on that singer.

  4. Entangled- Such a beautiful song. It really shows off Phil’s range not just in the lead vocal but in the harmonies. There is also the beautiful arrangement of the guitar and the bells. I imagine at the time–just post Gabriel–this gave Genesis fans a sense of hope that things would carry on with Phil in the new role and that the band could still be viable. As our fearless leader alluded to earlier, the pairing of this and Squonk is genius tracking.

LRB- This takes me back to AM radio of the 70s. It is odd to listen to this song in an open and ‘critical’ way. It’s one of those songs that is like background music and I never really considered the parts or the lyrics except for snippets like fridaynightitwaslateandI’mwalkingyouhomeandgotdowntothe gate. I think the highlight of the song for me is that drum fill maybe three and a half minutes in before the chorus. A little run on some very wet toms and an electronic BOOooo.

  5. “Reminiscing” by Little River Band: Yacht Rock. An unfair categorization as it “type-casts” in I think a negative way. I really enjoy this song. Smooth as smooth can be. Love all that Rhode electric piano tinkling along in the back. Super harmonization. Nostalgic. Love when that trumpet comes in towards the end. Everything in its place. Great presentation. Yes….it’s too vanilla but I like me a good vanilla sandwich sometimes.
