  1. Bowling for Soup – 1985
I associate them with the wave of pop-punk that nit in the early aughts – certainly with some humor as the band name hints toward.
Kinda remember this one – fun/sad. Like the *ooh whoo oohs.* The one vocal treatment reminds me of Melissa Lefton’s Now I Got Punk Rock Fever or maybe Liz Phair’s Why Can’t I. Enjoyable.

The Who – Heinz Baked Beans
Two for two in the F.U.N. category. More like a Python interlude than a song. We now return you to your regular programming.

  2. “1985”/Bowling for Soup. Pretty good song — funny and empathetic at once. And past “Prozac,” it drafts a dozen artists, and perhaps even 1985 itself, as crypto brand/band names. Nothing fancy, gets the job done. Very entertaining vid too.

“Heinz Baked Beans”/The Who. I knew somebody this round would pluck from this famed concept album, which was well ahead of its time in consisting largely of fake jingles. This one’s for a real product though — Heinz Baked Beans, an American product which for some reason I can’t recall became so popular in the U.K. it became effectively British. As in another Who deep cut, “Cobwebs and Strange,” the band leans on a marching-band style arrangement, and also on a series of funny voices (at least two of which, and maybe all of which, are by Entwistle, including his “Boris” voice).

  3. “Heinz Bakes Beans” by The Who

What? Seems to be a linking piece in a longer album perhaps…..it did make me smile….. Mission accomplished.
