“Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around” by The Roots
Submitted by Ed

Purely found in a search for protest and/or songs about fighting for rights. A fan of the Roots and this cover fits nicely into this round.

“Cry Freedom” by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds
Submitted by Ian

Never was a Dave Matthews fan until a guy in college played this album for me, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds live (somewhere)
Probably my favorite gathering of Dave Matthews songs

VOLUME 24.5.2

“Who Stole the Soul?” by Public Enemy
Submitted by Bill

A demand for economic rights, which starts out condemning the exploitation of Black artists and their work, and then, PE style, casts similarly withering glances at South Africa, U.S. housing discrimination and 40 acres and a mule. That dense but canny Bomb Squad production remains innately satisfying.

“Biko” by Peter Gabriel
Submitted by Alan

Haunting, intense and anthemic, this is Gabriel’s song about Stephen Biko who was a leader of an anti-apartheid group in South Africa in the 1970s. He was arrested and died while in custody of the police. The song is powerful in its simplicity and expanding power over the course of the song. “You can blow out a candle but you can’t blow out a fire.”

“Burn the Witch” by Radiohead
Submitted by Dave

The strings and the Radio Head signature style hypnotized me. Was this one served up before? I recall focusing/listening to this at some point in the not to distant past but can not recall if it was because of MyFive. Anyway, my pick.
