  1. DS – never heard of. beginning had a little Steely Dan sound going on. got a little too sleepy for me. guy looks like Kylo Ren from starwars.

TS – If Jefferson Airplane was a high end sneaker Trip would be the supermarket equivalent. overall decent song. lyrics a little weird. again never heard of them.

  2. DS- Soundscapes wash over you with haunting guitar licks in the distance . Add the melancholy saxophone and you have the ennui that of the 80s. A poor man’s Bryan Ferry? Maybe.

TS – Jazzy/Roots/Americana vibe here. For some reason I can here this in some off broadway show.

  3. David Sylvian – Silver Moon
Gorgeous. Lovingly, perhaps painstakingly, produced. (I can see where the thoughts of Steely Dan might arise.) That bass sound has served Sylvian well over the years. This track finds him in a mode somewhere between Language of Life era Everything But the Girl & Avalon era Roxy Music – Blue Nile also comes to mind. There is a trove of nuanced detail here to reward repeat listens with the voice a fellow instrument to piano, guitar, saxophone (I might have gone with oboe).

Trip Shakespeare – Jill Can Drive
Okay, this one just makes me smile. A less-polished Jellyfish? Sounds like they really had fun. The goofball vocal section and bombastic flourishes. Bouncy groovy man.

  4. “Silver Moon” / David Sylvian. This sort of smooth-jazzy stuff is not my thing, but it’s pretty well done, with some interesting interplay between the instruments toward the end. Never heard of him before, no guess on base artist!

“Jill Can Drive” / Trip Shakespeare. Remember hearing about these guys, never heard anything by them that I can recall. Here playing a kind of largely acoustically based melodic stuff that was a feature of the early 90s pop landscape — that is, until the entirely unexpected off-kilter coda. Wry little slice of life lyrics. Liked it ok. Base artist: Likewise, no idea (without looking it up, of course).

  5. Jill Can Drive: Love it: Starts off like a gentle folk song but with so many excellent instrumental adds that dot the landscape (I like the percussion and keyboard parts) . The unexpected change-up at 3:48 in so worth the wait ….a fun, creative departure off the flight path. Really enjoyed the song and arrangement as a whole. Had me leaning in for more.

David Sylvian – Silver Moon: Kind of an ambient, chill feel that wraps around you. Love the instrumental breaks. I like the poetic and hard to follow lyrics though they may be a tiny bit overdone (I relate).I love discovering new artists and this submitter has introduced me to someone I will look into closer at opportunity…thx.
