  1. Odds – Someone Who’s Cool
    Power pop sheen. Devious.

    TORTURETWINN – Red Light
Didn’t know what to expect from this one, but we’re back in the Cure, Echo & The B-men sound. No problem there. This says 80s loud and clear. Real Life, Modern English, Simple Minds, etc. Retro-rewind soundtrack material. Fun listen.

  2. “Someone Who’s Cool”/Odds. Straightforward post-punk guitar pop, but top marks for the lyrics. Very funny stuff, but also trenchantly nods at imposter syndrome, fake-it-till-you-make it, and meta narratives. Smarties with guitars, reminds me of Fountains of Wayne.

“Red Light”/torturetwinn. I, too, thought of Le Cure. I first perceived that arpeggiating device as a keyboard but it’s maybe a second guitar through a chorus pedal? It really drives the song, especially in the pre-chorus. “torturetwinn” is a fairly dire name, I thought this was gonna be death metal or something.

  3. Odds- Le Power Pop. I don’t know why I remembered these guys were Canadien. It has a certain thing that is reminiscent of mid-90’s, non-radio rock. Good guitars. Harmonies. A certain pleasing melodic progression that is joyful, playful and with the slightest of edges. Bands like Fastball, The Refreshments and even Spin Doctors are in there. I’m guessing that this line–“If sympathy’s the answer I’ll have temporary cancer” punched its ticket in this round; it’s a good one.

  4. “Someone Who’s Cool” by Odds
I have a vague impression of Beatles for some reason. The mix is cool. The guitar strums seem to flit back and forth across the stereo field. The song is cool too…..liked the guitar feel and tone and the vocal work/harmonies. Wondering how the songs fits the round but did think I heard something about cancer as he sang.

“Red Light” by torturetwinn…oohhh really love this. The high picking melody lines are super and that reverb lush riff is magical. That wash into the bridge was just right. Hit the Spot tonight. Excellent use of space.
