  1. KB – I think her name has been thrown around lately because of Stranger Things. Again, don’t know anything about her.

Can’t say that I like this, her voice is like nails on a chalk board. Seems very 80’s. Sounds like she is trying to mimic Heart in places, but I just don’t think (Based off this song alone) she has the range. (and maybe my bias is to blame because I love heart) It feels flat like something is missing. Maybe the music and the vocal, I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on it.

  2. Kate Bush – James and the Cold Gun
As much as I consider myself a Kate Bush fan, I’m really only solidly familiar with 2 albums – The Dreaming and Hounds of Love. Of course I know Wuthering Heights, the lead single from this record, but I don’t know any of the other tracks by name.
[The piano intro here is not that far from Heart and Soul :)]
It really sounds a lot like early Curved Air! I’ve always liked her voice, but see where it could be an acquired taste. Love how the organ whirls in at about the 2-minute mark. There’s some gritty rock here. Also makes me think of Roxy Music. Not quite art-rock – it kinda blurs genre lines. I can kinda hear Laura Nyro and then it ends with a Doobie Brothers-esque mini-jam. This one rewards repeated listens. Love it!

    1. Kate-
      1) This slice of her work is definitely totally different from Hounds. While she has a crazy range, singing at that high register over a whole song is a little overkill.
      2) I do appreciate the organ in here.
      3) Love the Roald Dahl reference.
      4) Heart? Never heard of ’em.

  3. “James and the Cold Gun” by Kate Bush: Never heard this song before and love it. I am a big fan of Kate Bush and this song is a great example of what I like. The cadence and way she carries a tune is so good. The song captivated me and makes me wanna go back for seconds which I will do right now.
