Serj – Love his voice, just finished reading his book down with the system about the band and Armenian genocide. He also started a new project where he is performing a cover song every two weeks I think.. It just started.
Serj Tankian – The Unthinking Majority
I know we’ve had a Serj before – is he the System of a Down guy? Like the juxtaposition of the parts. The harsher parts grew on me as I listened the first time. A little Middle Eastern flavor. A bit of an assault for my first cup of coffee, but I dig it.
“The Unthinking Majority”/Serj T. Musically, like maybe if you took part of a Metallica song and welded it to a part of a Frank Zappa song. The lyrics mocking herd mentality and psychotropic drugs are very Zappa too. Quite a voice he has. An acquired taste, I imagine, but it really cuts through.
“The Unthinking Majority” by Serj Tankian: the lyrics seem prescient now. Alternative metal is a tough genre for me. Certain few songs can hit and bring me in. This was an electric shock of frenetic energy. Though I think it could grow on me it did not land despite my open stance towards it. I was waiting for the vocal fry death growl but it never arrived. That is not a bad thing.
Serj- I’m not an a priori Serj or SOADown fan though I can appreciate his talent and ideas. The song reminds me of the tunnel ride in Wily Wonka. I also appreciate his use of dynamics– something often overlooked in other genres.
