  1. This is amazing. I was just listening then heard the brass, looked to see if he was playing then saw he was doing it with his mouth. I like the style and song a lot. Bonus points for the letterman intro

  2. Raul Midon – State of Mind
Love that guitar slapping/tapping technique – reminds me of Erik Mongrain. And his vocals elicit shades of Stevie Wonder. Love his voice – so strong and rich. Matching the mouth trumpet with the guitar is pretty great. Why have I never heard of this guy? Great selection!

Aside: DL sounds like his voice was changing on “talented.”

  3. “State of Mind”/Raul Midon. Wow. This is one of those times you really need to see the vid. Amazing guitar technique — harmonics on the fly — and yeah, vocalizing like a trumpet in single-note harmony with your finger-picked guitar: He’s clearly put in his 10,000 hours. Agreeable little ditty as well. I wondered why I’d never heard of this guy (it looks like the Letterman gig was in 2005) but it seems he’s still out there releasing albums and getting Grammy noms and whatnot. Noice pick.

  4. Seriously? Are we sure this is not an AI take on the recent Bobby McFerrin tune? Ths is a marvel. To the already posted comments, I’ll add that his guitar technique reminded me of the great Kaki King. Agreed with Ed about hints of Stevie Wonder in his voice (a quick search also revealed that he has been blind since birth). And holy crap- that trumpet sound? Gorgeous. Thanks to whomever for bringing this artsist into the light.

  5. I am pritty, pritty sure I was introduced to this song through one of Ed’s notorious 90 minute TDK brand mix tape b-day gifts (with Dolby sound of course) from many, many moons ago……2005 could be about right…….has rested inside my iTunes library since.
