  1. MoI – An interesting song from the mothers of invention,

BL- unfortunately for me, this song was overplayed to death. I never really listed to the Barenaked Ladies so im not sure what else they have done.

  2. “Electric Jemima”/The Mothers … Zappa draws on his seemingly anomalous love of doo-wop (I believe it was most evident on his early records) here to spoof on that popular syrup brand (which many years later was “updated” to remove racist “mammy” tropes). Funny voices. An oddity. Certainly on point for this round.

“If I … A Million Dollars”/BNL. I have admittedly always found BNL rather twee. This countryish ditty is cute. I did laugh at the line about the K car. I wondered whether the blonde lady in the crowd was Tipper Gore but I don’t think it actually is.

  3. The Mothers of Invention – Electric Aunt Jemima
This may be the only Zappa album I ever actually bought (CD). Don’t remember this track specifically, but the work is splendidly odd and jazzily diverse. This works in some of FZ’s penchant for doo-wop. Very silly and wonderfully playful.

    Barenaked Ladies – If I Had $1,000,000
Comfortable. Points for the K-Car memory. Lot’s of pleasant riffing – vocally & instrumentally. I’m getting a little Poi Dog Pondering vibe. A real crowd pleaser.

  4. “Electric Aunt Jemima” by The Mothers of Invention: I suspect this round will continue to offer up a wide standard deviation of curiosities. This was no exception. The vocals are an acquired taste but the song captured me. Frank Zappa strikes again and this one definitely did not make the Top 40 Chart.

“If I Had $1,000,000” by Barenaked Ladies: These two have distinctive voices that blend together so well. This song showcases their sound perfectly. Charming and I do not mean that in a critical dismissive way.
