  1. STP- First, I wanna see the shooting script for that video- wild! I was very intrigued by STP. Interesting, sophisticated and mildly complicated rhythms and harmony. I love the repeating and varying guitar/drum parts here and the chunky toms in the background. Great guitar leads in here too. Fun fact which may not be true. The band’s name came from brainstorming ideas off of the motor oil STP, one of which was Shirley Temple’s Pussy.

  2. Stone Temple Pilots – Vasoline
I wanna lump this in with Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc. – bands that I know are pretty good, but don’t really do it for me.
However, there is something about this one that pulls it out of that morass. I think it maybe dips enough into the psychedelic realms of Kula Shaker, Jesus Jones and the like to hit that sweet spot for me.

  3. “Vasoline”/Stone Temple Pilots. Good angsty track. I too liked the secondary percussion. The transition to the pre-chorus is kind of swooping somehow and very effective. I’m taking a second listen and hearing the intro guitar buzz as a stuck fly (or flies). The verse guitar figure is basic but effective. Vocals are unusually decipherable for this kind of grunge-era tune. Nice guitar solo too! All in under 3:00, very good.

  4. Vasoline: guitar driven, driving…..rhythm pulse harder to play than one would think, I know this song well as it is performed by the cover band I am in. Short number that hits the spot. I love singing the backup oh Ahs toward the end

  5. Work and life have been very crazy lately, I will try to catch up.

STP was along for the ride with Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins. STP was always great for music “In your head” while doing crazy things like surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking etc. It just got you pumped. I recently was listening and heard a song I wasn’t familiar with, I know after Scott died, they used Chester Bennington (I really didn’t like), who also died. Apparently they found a new singer and released a few albums that I was unaware of. I think it really works and had to give them a go.
