REM – didn’t pay too much attention to REM, I purchased the one CD that I assume made them popular to the regular crowd, then bough the second and felt they went to mainstream. (A lot of bands do this, Chilli Peppers for example I feel lost their punk roots and are now to pop for me. Stadium Arcadium was def different, but I love that double album) REM does produce some great songs and at some point I would like to go and listen to some of their older material.
“Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight”/REM. You know, I never did understand the words on the chorus until I looked them up just now. (That’s a crap ton of syllables in a short time.) Good song on a great album, plus of course the nod to “the Lion Sleeps Tonight.” I like that they incorporated Stipe’s voice cracking, at a couple points and his giggle after “a reading from Dr. Seuss.” The keys add a lot on this, hmm, and those subtle pizzicato strings around 3:00. Quite a bit lusher than I recalled. Nescafe!
A regular in my Pandora mix.
Love the nod to The Tokens’ classic. Got a little Get-Up, Lonely Thread vibe from it. Not a standout in the band’s catalog for me.
Breezes along well enough.
