  1. B-52s – Wow, its been awhile since I have listened/head the B-52s. A refreshing start to the morning. Another band I need to do a deep dive on, for older music, Rock Lobster and maybe another, then it was full on for Love Shack.

XTC – brought to my attention in the early My 5 years. Come to find a lot of my favorite Primus songs were covers. My bearded dragon was named after the song “Making plans for Nigel” The beginning of this song sounds very familiar, I was thinking I may have known it from a cover, however the rest of the song does not track.. I need to solve this riddle because the intro sounds note for note. I can see why XTC is such a hit in the My5 group. Just good fun music. So homework is: listen to the intro and figure out who used this in their song.

  2. The B-52’s – Give Me Back My Man
Infectious riff and groove. An aching plea. I welcome that riff back after the bridge like an old friend. Quintessentially 80s, but it’s been working for me for decades.

    XTC – Respectable Street
The lead track off of one of their strongest albums. Terry Chambers, who just turned 70, is still pounding this one out on the drums as a part of ExTC – they played most of the album on their most recent tour. The guitar sound is fantastic – chiming and crunching. It’s a gritty track, but with buoyancy provided by the rhythm section. They get back to this more forceful sound a few albums later on Big Express – maybe that’s why I like it so much. Is there a Respectable Street in Smalltown?

  3. “Give Me Back My Man”/B52s. Don’t think I’ve heard this oen. Does she say, “I’ll give you fish, I’ll give you candy”? And Korvette’s! Always liked their surf-twangy guitar stylings. The more you think about this one, the eerier it gets, some kind of existential deal she’s making with the universe rather than with a romantic rival. Despite the quirky new-wave surface, there’s a bleak reading here.

“Respectable Street”/XTC. One of their best-sounding tracks, I think: The drums wallop, the bass is nice and fat, and the guitar in the right channel nips away like a rodent chewing on electrical wires. An ideal vehicle for the hypocrisy-condemning lyrics.

  4. “Give Me Back My Man” by The B-52’s:This was vaguely familiar.
B52 signature sound. I enjoy B52s a lot in one song at a time doses. A full album would give me indigestion. Quirky and energized. I’ll give you fish, I’ll give you candy.
